The Impact of Interactive Social Networks

Internet social networking. Essentially, My Space and The Facebook. They are massive, with millions world wide. Reach, and involvement are incredibly high. People love branding themselves.

What is to come in terms of marketing for the present and future of this relatively new phenomenon--the possibilities seem vast. And how does that effect us as students of persuasion? Facebook executions in student books?

Account people are in love with this idea.

Should they be?

Well, maybe.

But that doesn't mean it's a good idea.

It has to be more than making a fake page to try to sell something to someone.

And the problem is that so many real-world executions fall flat because all they do is make a fake page. It isn't carried further and it doesn't feel authentic.

I guess the big question is how to make a marketing friend-page feel real. I'm interested in knowing who's really succeeding in this media?

The Facebook does a good job at not making fake pages, and integrating their marketing into quirky little games and applications. They are coincidentally owned by Google. (hmm)
